GlobalSign and AirWatch Streamline Mobile Security With Integrated Solution

GlobalSign's Digital Certificates Provide Strong Authentication, while AirWatch Mobile Platform
Simplifies Deployment; Better Manage BYOD and Employee Access to Corporate Networks

RSA CONFERENCE 2015, SAN FRANCISCO, BOOTH #626 — April 20, 2015 – GMO GlobalSign (www.globalsign.com), a leading provider of identity services for online transactions and the security division of Tokyo-based GMO Internet, announced a technology partnership with AirWatch, a unit of VMware (NYSE: VMW), that allows enterprises to issue and manage GlobalSign digital certificates for mobile authentication directly from AirWatch’s MDM platform.  The integration of the AirWatch MDM platform with GlobalSign’s cloud-based Managed PKI solution provides IT teams with a streamlined approach to securely managing BYOD and employee access to corporate networks through faster and easier provisioning and management of digital certificates on mobile devices.

IT security managers ranked mobile security as their #1 concern in 2015, and 75% of them said their organizations’ mobile endpoints have been attacked by some form of malware in the past 12 months[1] Digital certificates, which are seamlessly installed on mobile devices, provide strong yet transparent security.  With digital certificates, users do not have to receive and enter one-time passcodes, have access to biometric readers, or carry additional tokens – yet enterprises gain far tighter controls than by using passwords alone.   Using digital certificates, which are based on proven public key infrastructure (PKI) technology, also saves organizations time and hassle by avoiding the need for single-point security solutions that ultimately leave data vulnerable as it moves from point to point.

“GlobalSign’s Managed PKI implementation enables certificates to be used in today’s most in-demand mobile authentication needs, including authenticating access to email, Wi-Fi networks, and VPNs. Complementing this are additional AirWatch MDM features that simplify life cycle management, including widespread mobile certificate issuance, management, renewal or revocation of certificates, either individually or in bulk. With the GlobalSign AirWatch solution, IT teams can:;

  • Automatically provision digital identities on devices without end-user interaction.  As soon as a device is enrolled with AirWatch, a GlobalSign digital certificate can be issued to that device
  • Support strong identities for Android, iOS, Windows, Blackberry and other popular mobile devices
  • Improve user experience with seamless authentication to corporate networks and resources
  •   Enhance security, by controlling which devices access your networks and corporate resources

AIRWATCH/VMWARE QUOTE:  “Digital certificates offer a level of security and authentication that passwords alone just can’t compete with," said XXX, TITLE, at AirWatch. “By integrating to the GlobalSign Managed PKI platform, enterprises can mitigate the risk of unauthorized access to sensitive information and intellectual property via mobile devices, while also delivering the convenience and productivity that mobile and BYOD users have come to expect..".

“With more employees using their own devices, and the explosive Internet of Everything (IoE) projected to bring even more devices into contact with corporate resources, IT departments must look for ways to strengthen security without taxing internal resources,” said Lila Kee, chief product officer of GlobalSign. “GlobalSign’s partnership with AirWatch is making it easier for IT teams to balance employees’ needs to access email and corporate data from anywhere, with the organization’s need to protect against unauthorized access to key business applications, using the PKI technology that’s been proven for years.”

GlobalSign is demonstrating its Enterprise PKI solutions, including the AirWatch MDM integration, at this week’s RSA Conference 2015, held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.
